Holy Week Reflections

~ by Charlotte

I have to admit that I felt emotional and had been affected by a recent discussion with a friend about the events going on in Asia. Thus, my recent post about war and how I feel about it. I honestly felt strongly about my opinion, and in my assertion, I came upon some realization with the help of some friends…

The thing is, I think everyone of us have the same cause for self preservation and longevity. And that we are fearful for something, anything that has the capacity to change, disturb or threaten us, our peace and our way of living. But most of these threats are beyond our control! With our individuality and difference in personality, we may have varied reactions and varied ways of dealing with it, that could affects our own circle, but none of these reactions, no discussion, no heated debate can really change what’s going to happen on a larger scale.

With this, I have realized even further how our lives are hanging by a thread and there is nothing we can do about it. We can only take hold of ourselves, get a grip and continue to cherish the friendships and loves we keep.

Happy Easter!

“If I had been there, I could have slapped you silly and knocked your senses out for your crazy ideas; and called you names for disturbing my peace. That would have been funny.”

That’s what I thought, anyway. And then, it hit me!

Nostalgia. I miss my friends, those made in Japan(/Philippines).

And it hit me again.

Melancholy. I don’t have anyone here to debate and laugh with. And that the friendships I have now are so cordial but have less drama and depth.

  • Great reflections. You wrote: “But most of these threats are beyond our control!” I couldn’t agree more. That’s a smarter way of dealing with the war thing. :-)

Hope you find more friends nearby! I miss you too and dream that someday I can visit you in the US. Can you reserve a room for me? or the couch will do!

  • debate and laugh through your blogs! ^^ hehehe ^^

well, i guess, that’s part of married life? Sometimes we long for something else, kapag tino-topak, but usually FAMILY is more than enough. ^^

When matthew goes to school – is he already? – you’ll find other mom friends for sure! and by then you’ll be drinking tea and coffee together during the weekends, discussing and debating issues from child care to politics! hehehe ^^
