Aloha Friday
I know this is a cheesy question, but in the spirit of valentine just play along.
Do you use a special romantic ‘nickname’ or terms of endearment between you and your husband / boyfriend / significant other?
I call my darling husband ‘Papi‘ and he calls me ‘Baby‘. While with others, petnames and nicknames happened by accident, ours were well discussed.
Now that we are parents, we became ‘Mommy‘ and ‘Daddy ‘, even to each other. It think there’s nothing more endearing than him calling me ‘Baby‘ or ‘Mommy‘. It shows fondness and love. And I think he really likes that too. And this really helped us get comfortable with each other at first. It is one of the things that works for us.
It started a little weird and awkward for me since I grew up to parents who are not too obvious with their affection. But after very few times, there were giggles, then warm fuzzy feeling. Now, I very seldom use his name and only as a third person. Also, now I think my parents were weird since my mother called my father not even with his first name but with our last name and I never saw them holding hands.
While calling each other ‘Papi‘ and ‘Baby‘ or ‘Mommy‘ and ‘Daddy‘ works for our marriage, and what I’ve gotten really used to, it became really difficult when I’m mad at him and not feeling any endearment or fondness towards him. When I’m mad, I don’t know how to call him, because I can’t utter any terms of endearment when I’m mad. Thank God, we have Matthew now, who at 1-year old is already very helpful. I just yell out loud, “Matthew, tell your daddy …(this and that).” And he dutifully relays it to his daddy.

I love your post. It makes me smile.
I also use a special name for my husband. I call him, Honey.
He only calls me by my name, but that’s OK. After more than 20 years I’ve given up hoping he would call me something romantic.
Great question!

We will be celebrating our first anniversary March 3. Being newlyweds, we rarely ever use our real names. We always use some term of endearment, “Love”, “Honey”, “Sweetheart”…sometimes he calls me “Bobbie”…but then, so does my 3 year old nephew.
- acupofjoy February 1, 2008 at 7:14 amWhen my husband and I were still boyfriend & girlfriend we called each other Love and Baby. Now we call one another Dad and Mom.
- Rach February 1, 2008 at 11:54 amWe use the typical dear and sweetheart. But if we are feeling especially romantic, I call him sexy.

I do, actually I have about four nicknames, but I’m too embarassed to tell you what they all are.
Plus it would probably take an hour just for me to explain how they all came about.
I love that song playing in the background. Happy Aloha Friday..

My husband works for a well known airline. When we met he was flying between Los Angeles and New York. He use to live in New York and loves the city. I started calling him “New York” and still do.
- Cathi February 1, 2008 at 2:43 pmLOL! That IS cute! My husband and I only call each other Honey. We are BOTH Honey. It’s really confusing at Christmas when we are opening gifts. One of the kids always pass them out… and it’s like “oh look! THIS one is for Honey! Which one of you wrapped it???” hehehe… gotta keep them on their toes!
- melli February 1, 2008 at 3:07 pmWe don’t really use pet names very much, other than calling each other ‘Mommy’ and ‘Daddy’. Before we had kids, we both used ‘Sweetie’ a lot, but lately we use that for the kids more than each other.
- Deb - Mom of 3 Girls February 1, 2008 at 5:11 pmMy husband and I have many, many nicknames for1 each other.
Aren’t cute petnames the best?

- Jacki February 1, 2008 at 7:39 pmIt is very rare that we call each other by our given name. If that happens, we know that the other is really serious about something. So now that we have a little one, it’s “Mommy” and “Daddy.” Sometimes also “Baby.”
- Heather February 1, 2008 at 8:44 pmMy husband calls me “Babe” but I don’t really have a name for him. Maybe I should come up with one.
