Aloha Friday

I know this is a cheesy question, but in the spirit of valentine just play along.

Do you use a special romantic ‘nickname’ or terms of endearment between you and your husband / boyfriend / significant other?

I call my darling husband ‘Papi‘ and he calls me ‘Baby‘. While with others, petnames and nicknames happened by accident, ours were well discussed. :) Now that we are parents, we became ‘Mommy‘ and ‘Daddy ‘, even to each other. It think there’s nothing more endearing than him calling me ‘Baby‘ or ‘Mommy‘. It shows fondness and love. And I think he really likes that too. And this really helped us get comfortable with each other at first. It is one of the things that works for us.

It started a little weird and awkward for me since I grew up to parents who are not too obvious with their affection. But after very few times, there were giggles, then warm fuzzy feeling. Now, I very seldom use his name and only as a third person. Also, now I think my parents were weird since my mother called my father not even with his first name but with our last name and I never saw them holding hands.

While calling each other ‘Papi‘ and ‘Baby‘ or ‘Mommy‘ and ‘Daddy‘ works for our marriage, and what I’ve gotten really used to, it became really difficult when I’m mad at him and not feeling any endearment or fondness towards him. When I’m mad, I don’t know how to call him, because I can’t utter any terms of endearment when I’m mad. Thank God, we have Matthew now, who at 1-year old is already very helpful. I just yell out loud, “Matthew, tell your daddy …(this and that).” And he dutifully relays it to his daddy.
